Volunteer fans are buzzing as Joey Aguilar heads into the UAB game at Neyland, looking to bounce back from the Georgia heartbreaker. You see, Aguilar has quickly become the guy Tennessee leans on. He became the first SEC QB in 20 years to complete every pass (14-of-14) in a quarter and racked up 371 yards and four TDs. But wait, he also threw a couple of costly interceptions in that thrilling 44-41 overtime loss. His arm showed serious fireworks on bombs to wideout Chris Brazzell—a 72-yarder and a 56-yard score—and a nifty 32-yard touchdown to Braylon Staley.

As for Tennessee’s QB situation overall in 2025, Aguilar is the clear leader after stepping in mid-transition from Nico Iamaleava. Against UAB, a team Tennessee has swept in all five previous meetings, Aguilar will look to keep the offense humming and avoid the past mistakes. The Volunteers, with a high-powered offense ranked sixth nationally, are favorites and eager to get a much-needed W in front of their home crowd. But beyond the field, Joey Aguilar draws strength from a solid support system. It’s from his girlfriend, Rylan Moffitt. Rylan is a collegiate basketball forward currently at UNC Greensboro. She is not only his biggest fan but a fellow athlete who understands the pressures of sports.
