Who is Hassan Haskins’ Father, Hassan Haskins Sr.?
Hassan Haskins Sr. has always been a constant presence in his son’s life. He worked in construction, built houses, and taught Hassan the value of grit and hard work from a young age. Although he never played football himself, his role was much more than just a provider. He was often the one advocating for his son’s opportunities when others doubted him.
Sr. didn’t just see Hassan as a kid with a ball but as a fighter who deserved an opportunity. He understood the grind, having worked blue-collar jobs to support his family. When the family finally got their old GMC van, it was Sr. who used it to drive his son back and forth to practices, sometimes waiting for hours in the heat or cold. Later, after Hassan’s defining performance against Ohio State, Sr. embraced his son in the snow and told him, “Man, you did it. The world can see what you’ve been doing all this time.” His pride and belief were clear.

Who is Hassan Haskins’ Mother, Lynette McAlpine?
If Sr. provided toughness, Lynette McAlpine gave balance. She worked in home healthcare and at the post office, often juggling jobs while raising her children. At home, she kept her youngest grounded and safe, especially in a rough St. Louis neighborhood. She was protective, hesitant at first to let him play football, and even later, she followed him closely to parks to keep an eye on him.
But McAlpine also recognized Hassan’s unique drive. She saw it in small things, even how he played Madden. He’d call the same play repeatedly, sending the ball up the middle, and later she realized it wasn’t just a game but a reflection of who he was. She recalls watching him on the field and seeing those same runs come to life. Sensitive yet determined, Hassan carried her lessons of humility and perseverance everywhere.
When the town of Eureka celebrated her son’s rise, she stood proudly among the crowd. “You don’t hear that about everybody,” she once noted, when people described Hassan as an even better man off the field than a player on it. For McAlpine, her son’s character mattered most.

When Hassan scored five touchdowns against Ohio State, Eureka shut down a street in his honor, and his parents stood in the middle of the celebration, hugged by neighbors and coaches. At Michigan Stadium, after his legendary performance, fans swarmed the field, but his parents fought through the crowd to find him. McAlpine later compared it to chasing down a superstar: “It’s like he was Michael Jackson or somebody.”
