There are not many teams that can survive a season without their star wideout, and the Miami Dolphins are no exception. The Fins suffered a tough blow when they lost Tyreek Hill to a knee injury in the team’s 27-21 Monday Night Football win over the New York Jets. As things stand, the wideout has been sidelined for the rest of the season.

This led the Kansas City Chiefs‘ quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, to have a chat with his former wideout. On Thursday, October 2, Mahomes admitted that he talked with Hill and sent prayers his way. “I talked to him a little bit… more than anything sending prayers his way… I know how hard he works. I’m excited to watch his comeback now. Obviously, praying for him and his family,” Mahomes said, per Charles Goldman of A to Z Sports.

Hill injured his knee at the end of a 10-yard catch from Tua Tagovailoa. As he was brought down by a Jets defender near the sideline, his leg twisted awkwardly on the tackle. While Hill has undergone a successful surgery to repair his dislocated knee and multiple torn ligaments, he’s not expected to return for the season.

It’s about rehab, and he will play next season,” Hill’s agent Drew Rosenhaus told ESPN’s Adam Schefter. “The realistic goal is the start of the season.” Earlier this season, Hill’s name was floating around in trade rumors, with the Chiefs even mentioned as a possible landing spot after their second-year wideout, Xavier Worthy, went down with an injury.

But with Hill now ruled out for the rest of the season, that talk feels more like a myth than anything else. Right after the gruesome injury struck earlier this week, Mahomes took to his ‘X’ handle and wrote, “Prayers up man….. 🙏🏽🙏🏽.” Mahomes (drafted in 2017) and Hill (drafted in 2016) played five seasons together before the wideout was traded to the Dolphins. Meanwhile, the 30-year-old QB has also addressed Worthy’s performance ahead of the Week 5 game.

Patrick Mahomes raves about Xavier Worthy

In his much-anticipated return, expectations were palpable from Xavier Worth, and the second-year wideout delivered. Worthy caught five receptions for 83 yards and rushed for 38 yards on a couple of carries as the Chiefs won 37-20 against the Baltimore Ravens. Now, ahead of their Week 5 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Mahomes sent a message to Worthy.

That’s what I expected from him at the beginning of the season. He’s a guy who can win 1-on-1 versus anybody in the league… It was a great thing to get him out there,” the QB said. Worthy had been sidelined the past couple of games with a dislocated right shoulder. But his return to the Chiefs’ receiving corps gave their offense the spark it needed.

He’s just so explosive,” Mahomes said after the game. “When you get the ball in his hands, man, it just makes defenses have to adjust. And when they adjust, because he gets so much attention on him, other guys can make plays happen. Just having him out there, not only for his physical abilities but just the morale of the [locker room], I thought it was huge.”

With Worthy’s return, the 30-year-old QB also put up a strong outing. Mahomes completed passes to nine teammates and threw for 270 yards and four touchdowns without any turnovers. Now, with the Jaguars on deck, the expectation is that Worthy keeps that momentum rolling.
