Chiefs’ Travis Kelce Reveals How Coach Deion Sanders’ Lovechild Is Changing His Life 29 Years Later

Travis Kelce recently spoke his heart out in a sports podcast. From Aaron Rodgers and Super Bowl victories to the Brady vs. Mahomes debate, the tight end went uncut on some hot topics. But one moment might come as vintage to the slightly older NFL fans. The Chiefs TE explained how his pre-game proceedings had a Coach Prime connection.

Although he agreed that he had not been a follower since his Cincinnati days, Kelce credited Deion Sanders for taking him back to college football. Whether in the dressing room or a broadcast, Kelce revealed that he found the rhythm in Deion Sanders’ moves that fired him up.

Travis Kelce was only five in 1994, but that hasn’t stopped him from vibing on the song ‘Straight To My Feet’ before his games. The song is a hip-hop classic from the same year’s superhit thriller ‘Street Fighter,’ featuring Jean-Claude Van Damme. More interestingly, the music video featured Colorado Buffaloes’ now-head coach, Deion Sanders, aka Coach Prime, taking his steps to match the beats and even voice a few lines.

In a recent episode of the ‘I Am Athlete’ podcast, co-host Ashley Nicole Moss stated that the song has made Kelce’s pre-game playlist for quite some time. She then asked if that was still the case. In response, Kelce revealed that it was still one of his go-to songs before a game.

“It’s still, yeah, I got in my game day playlist.”

“I mean, Prime Time is one of the best to ever do it in all aspects of life. I mean, he absolutely just thrives, and it’s the way he carries himself,” Kelce expressed just how much he respected Deion Sanders. “And I think that song right there is like, I don’t know, it kind of puts an aura around him that I can really understand. And I’m all about the kicks, too, so I guess that has something to do with it as well. But yeah, Prime Time, he gets me right before the games for sure,” Kelce explained exactly why the song ‘gets him‘ before the games.

But Kelce’s appreciation for Sanders didn’t just stop there. He said that Sanders’ arrival in the NCAA has made him excited for college football once again.

Coach Prime effect makes Travis Kelce feel ‘excited’

When the co-host asked about his views on Deion Sanders’ redemption of Colorado Buffaloes and college football, the tight end was even more enthusiastic with the answer.

“I haven’t watched this much college football in, I mean, close to since I was in college, and he’s got me excited about every single match that he goes up against. He’s just bringing what he brings to everything, and that’s energy and just good vibes… You just want to be a part of it, man. At least you want to witness it and see where it’s going to go. And you know what, I got all the faith that he’s going to find a way to keep winning over there.” Kelce clearly opened everything up about Coach Prime and his effect on himself.

Kelce, however, has a lot more reason to feel excited as the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs are looking well on course to do it all over again. Despite an early fumble in the opening week, the Chiefs have climbed over everything that got in their way since. He, too, has been having one whack of a season, already breaking a couple of all-time records halfway through it.

The Chiefs next face the Broncos on Sunday, October 30. With Patrick Mahomes, Kelce will look to extend their record to 7-1 in the season. So watch out for the live action from Mile High Stadium in Denver, Colorado.
