The perfect leap 42-yard grab pushed the audience to the edge of their seats, yet the commentator was heard saying, “He is hurt.”

The Titans closed in on quarterback Jones, who stayed calm and released a pass to Pierce. However, Titans’ No. 37 met the WR midair and drove him to the ground, leaving Pierce stunned on the turf for several seconds.

Notably, Amani Hooker, the Titans’ safety responsible for the hit, has not been penalized for the action.

The Colts posted on X, “WR Alec Pierce, concussion evaluation, is questionable to return.”

The hit left Pierce dazed, holding his head, and the Colts confirmed he suffered a concussion, making his return unlikely. He was escorted to the locker room as concerns about the severity lingered.

Replay showed Pierce didn’t complete the catch, so it was ruled incomplete. Frustrated, he argued the call but initially refused to enter the injury tent. Veteran Reggie Wayne persuaded him to go inside. Before leaving, Pierce had caught four of five targets for 67 yards.

Shane Steichen’s system is affected by Pierce’s recovery protocol

Pierce has totaled 119 receptions for 2,102 yards and 11 touchdowns over his career, recording 41, 32, and 37 catches in his first three NFL seasons.

This year, he has caught 9 passes for 171 yards through the first 3 games… Hauling in one against Miami. 3 versus Denver. And 5 against Tennessee.

“Colts WR Alec Pierce is considered day-to-day with a groin injury, per source. He suffered the injury at practice over the weekend, but it does not appear serious,” ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported after Week 2.

Pierce, the 2024 leader in yards per catch, suffered a groin injury during the Week 2 matchup against the Broncos. But why was it a big thing? Because he plays a crucial role in Shane Steichen’s offense, which relies heavily on explosive plays to stretch defenses vertically. So, Pierce remains the Colts’ premier deep-threat weapon.

In 2024, Pierce led Indianapolis with seven touchdowns and averaged 22.3 yards per catch. Now, hoping the injury against the Titans was anything but serious, Steichen & Co. will be planning as the Colts face the Los Angeles Rams next Sunday. This gives Pierce just one week to recover and clear protocol.
