Kelly Stafford, the wife of Rams’ QB Matthew Stafford, apologized to Matthew’s former backup QB at Georgia, Joe Cox, and his family. This came after Kelly’s revelation on the Off the Vine podcast, where she shared a hilarious story from 16 years ago about dating Matthew’s backup to make him jealous.

Kelly’s story quickly went viral, sparking a media frenzy. She took to IG to clear the air. “To this beautiful fam, I’m so sorry for the media storm last week that made it into your lives,” she posted alongside a photo of Cox with his wife and three kids. She acknowledged their innocence, apologizing for her recent remarks. “Y’all were the UGA QB and cheerleader,” Kelly said, adoring their college connection and wanting the same bond with Stafford.
In the next IG story, Kelly expressed disbelief over how her words were twisted, “If it didn’t affect others, I wouldn’t even address it, because it was so comical.” Former Rams’ QB Matthew Stafford’s wife explained that the couple wouldn’t change anything about the past, “Matthew and I wouldn’t change anything, it was 16 years ago… but we appreciate the laughs.”

While all of this could’ve been prevented had Kelly kept this incident to herself, it also reminds us of the power of words. Despite the social media chaos, Kelly’s latest IG update took a lighter turn, celebrating her daughter’s birthday.

Kelly has always prioritized family values. In the Off the Vine podcast, she discussed her role as a mother and remarked, “I never saw my life without kids. I was certain that I would become a mother.” Kelly is happy for her daughters and delighted they won’t feel pushed to follow in their father’s NFL footsteps, even if she had originally hoped for boys.
Stafford’s wife tries to give her kids a welcoming and encouraging environment in her role as a mother. She acknowledged, “I’m really hard on my kids and I’m trying to relax a little.” Making sure her girls feel comfortable confiding in her is Kelly’s first priority. She said, “I had to have a conversation with you all the other day and say, ‘I want you all to be able to come to me with anything’.”
