The Chargers’ recent string of poor performances necessitated a strategic overhaul. This was majorly indicated by the team’s decision to dismiss head coach Brandon Staley and general manager Tom Telesco. This change in leadership came right after their shocking 63-21 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders during Thursday Night Football.

Not very long ago, Stephen A Smith passionately condemned the Chargers’ performance and leadership. He mainly focused on former head coach Brandon Staley. He was disappointed that they took too long to fire him. He said, “It’s unacceptable. I’m just saying to you, when you look at Brandon Staley, the coach for the Los Angeles target, you’re down 42 to nothing.” Smith criticized Staley’s background as a defensive coordinator with talents like Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsey. He questioned the decision to promote him to head coach.

He recalled the Chargers’ playoff failure and said, “When he lost a 27-to-nothing lead to the Jacksonville Jaguars… he should have been allowed on the team plane. They should have made his a*s fly commercial back to LA.” Many thanked Smith for pointing this out; however, Staley disagreed. Just before he got fired, he had also made public his opinions on the matter.
