The NFL season hasn’t even started yet and we’re seeing bold claims coming out of the New England Patriots. The Patriots drafted Drake Maye, Javon Baker (WR), and a couple of other athletes to their roster. But out of the eight drafts, Baker seems to be the most confident one so far.

Dov Kleiman shared a post on X that shows Baker making claims that he is one of the best WRs in the league. However, the fans took this to heart and commented on what they had in mind, trying to debunk his claims.

Is Javon Baker one of the best in the league?

Kleiman took to X and shared Savage’s post on his account. He captioned his post, “Patriots new WR Javon Baker say he’s already a Top 10 receiver in the #NFL 👀 “No way in f**king America, 10 receivers better than me. Outta your f’n mind.” The video shows a tired Javon Baker showcasing his exuberance after making it to the New England Patriots. However, he is not the only WR that the Pats signed this season.

The New England team also signed Ja’Lynn Polk, a receiver out of Washington, who didn’t share any such bold statements. But coming back to Baker, people took his comments to heart and started sharing their top 10s in the league.

One comment said, “Ceedee, Tyreek, JJefferson, Chase, Amon-Ra, Puka, AJ Brown, Mike Evans, Diggs, Devante Adams.. and that’s already 10. Kupp, Keenan, Pittman, George Pickins, etc.”

Others tried to support his comment by saying, “he was talking about the draft,” which sounds more probable. But for argument’s sake, if we delve into their performance, we can almost see that Polk and Baker had similar seasons coming out of college.

A brief comparison between Polk and Baker

Coming out of UCF, Baker’s 2023 season saw him receiving the ball 52 times over 1,139 yards and having 7 touchdowns in the season. It’s worth pointing out that in his time in Alabama, he didn’t get targeted a lot, having the career-lowest 15 yards in the first season. In hindsight, Polk’s situation looks much better.

The Patriots’ other receiver, Ja’Lynn Polk had 69 receptions over 1,159 yards and had 9 touchdowns in the season. He saw a gradual improvement since he first started in 2020 at Texas Tech, where he had 364 yards and 2 touchdowns. It also means that Baker’s statements undermine Marvin Harrison Jr. (1,211 yards and 14 TDs) and Rome Odunze, with a whopping 1,640 yards and 13 TDs in his parting season with Washington.

One thing worth noting is that Baker was the 110 pick in the draft and the NFL drafted 35 wide receivers this year. Though Baker is expressing his confidence, it might not be wise to disregard the other 34 prospects hired in the draft. What do you think?
