Warren on Russell Wilson and Justin Fields

At Cam Heyward’s “Not Just Football” podcast at the Steelers’ draft party, Warren stated, “It’s a night-and-day difference with their leadership. They bring a lot. They help out. They tell us how to run the route.” He further said that Russell and Justin pay close attention to details and hold themselves and their teammates accountable for running plays correctly. This attention to detail helps the team and greatly benefits their performance.

Russell Wilson has brought a positive change to the Steelers, as per Jaylen. Warren also appreciated the Steelers’ new offensive coordinator, Arthur Smith, for this positive change. He said, His biggest difference is he’s very interactive in the meetings. You want to pay attention because he’s gonna call you out if you’re not paying attention.

Jaylen said that this approach by the OC is very effectiveTherefore, with the guidance of OCs like Arthur Smith, the Steelers are poised for a promising season ahead with Russell and Fields, probably. But Fields’ return has not been confirmed till now.

Will Justin Fields return to the Steelers?

Warren said, “Our special teams coordinator was talking about Justin Fields being back there. And we’re like, ‘Hold up, hold up…’ We looked at him like, ‘Justin Fields going to be back there?’ You know, I don’t know. I think it’s cool.” The updated kickoff rules for 2024 state that players cannot move until the ball is caught by the returner. Fields’ speed makes him well-suited for this position, given his strong rushing record with the Bears.

However, despite the excitement around Fields’ involvement in special teams, his future with the Steelers might be short-lived. ESPN reported that the Steelers are unlikely to pick up Fields’ fifth-year option, valued at $25 million. This decision means that both Fields and Russell Wilson, the team’s top two quarterbacks, will be in the final year of their contracts.
