The star wide receiver Tee Higgins, who is set to play the 2024 season under the franchise tag with the Bengals, has drawn interest from the Steelers as a potential replacement for Diontae Johnson, who was recently traded to the Carolina Panthers. The Steelers are in need of a veteran wide receiver, and Higgins fits the bill.

While the Steelers are reportedly interested, the Bengals are reluctant to trade Higgins, especially to a division rival. Amid the speculation, Higgins’ recent statement regarding clarifying his intentions to not move to Steelers has sent shockwaves to the NFL world.

Higgins hints his Bengals stay

Charlie Clifford’s X profile posted a video of Tee’s recent interview with WLWT and captioned, “New @WLWT: Tee Higgins says he does anticipate playing for the Bengals in 2024. “

In the interview Higgins addressed the speculation, stating, “You see, I do anticipate it. You know, since he is grown up, I didn’t think I would see what happened.”

Higgins, known for his impressive performance on the field, has been a key player for the Bengals, contributing to their success in previous seasons. His talent and skills make him a valuable asset to the team, and his decision to stay will undoubtedly bolster the Bengals’ roster for the 2024 season.

This declaration comes amidst ongoing discussions and rumours about possible trades involving wide receivers.

The Steelers eye Higgins for wide receiver boost

The Steelers, seeking to bolster their wide receiver corps alongside George Pickens, could view Higgins as an ideal addition. If they fail to secure a notable wideout in the current offseason, they may target Higgins in the following year’s free agency.

Despite playing second fiddle to Ja’Marr Chase in Cincinnati, Higgins is considered a top-tier receiver. However, his addition to the Steelers roster could complicate matters regarding George Pickens, the team’s current top wideout.

Jason La Canfora, a prominent sports analyst, commented on the situation during the ‘In The Huddle podcast,’ highlighting the uncertainty surrounding the Steelers’ plans. He stated, “For me, there’s a piece of information we don’t have yet, which is do they trade for a wide receiver before the draft.” La Canfora further elaborated, expressing that it would not surprise him if the Steelers pursued a trade for a wide receiver leading up to or during the NFL draft.

However, Tee’s potential move would have kept Higgins in the AFC North, transitioning from the Bengals to the Steelers. While his immediate future lies with Cincinnati, his clarification surrounding his eventual move adds intrigue to the NFL offseason.
