The most awaited divisional game of the season has culminated in the Chiefs‘ victory. They overcame the Texans hurdle in the AFC Divisional round with 23-14. This is the 7th time in a row that Kansas has reached the Conference Championships. But it wasn’t all goody-goody for them. The fourth quarter had some unpleasant events wrapped for Patrick Mahomes and Co.

Chiefs safety Justin Reid got into a dangerous collision with WR Nico Collins, after TE Travis Kelce scored a touchdown, and Arrowhead Stadium went crazy. After the injury, players were seen around the writhing Safety, praying for him. But after some time, Justin Reid got up shaking and bumping fists with his teammates.

However, the Chiefs fans called it strategic. One fan said, “Strategic bad throw by CJ to get Justin Reid hurt.” The hit to Reid was so nasty that a fan said, “No, we the public do not need to see slow-motion replays of head and neck injuries, as we just did with Justin Reid of the Chiefs.” That’s how fans are feeling, but Reid had his share of injuries this season.

Before this potentially bad one, they rested Justin Reid in week 18. Also, he suffered a quad injury during training camp before the regular season. Reid was productive in 16 games in the 2024 season, recording 87 total tackles and nine passes defended, including two interceptions.

So, the injuries have been part and parcel of his NFL journey. But those injuries couldn’t stop him from shining in the season. In the divisional round game against the Texans, he tackled opponents seven times and defended on pass. However, there is no such update on his injury. Per Chiefs insider Pete Sweeney, the team came out without any serious injuries.

Now, with all players fit, the Chiefs are heading towards creating history.

With Reid safe and triumph, Chiefs move a step closer to historic glory

The Texans vs Chiefs game was scary in the 2nd and 3rd quarters. At that point in the game, the Texans were just close to surpassing the Chiefs. The result would have been different if Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce hadn’t scored a touchdown. The score was 13-12 and Mahomes passed an 11-yard touchdown throw to star TE and the situation changed. Papa Kelce and Taylor Swift celebrated Kelce’s touchdown together.

The divisional game ended with 23-14 on the board. Now the Chiefs are heading towards the three-peat. In the history of the NFL, no team has ever achieved this feat. There have been nine instances when teams reached near it but failed. The Packers missed a three-peat in 1968, the Dolphins in 1974, and the Steelers missed the historical record in 1976. They got another chance in 1980, but they failed in their mission.

After the Steelers, the 49ers missed it in 1990, the Cowboys in 1994, and the Broncos in 1999. And before the Chiefs had the chance to create history, the Patriots were so close to doing that in 2005 but missed it in the divisional round. And here we are! The Chiefs are now in the conference championship. Let’s see if they can create history!
