When the 1997 NFL Draft came, the first-round choice revealed a funny confession on how he wanted to escape the Lions draft. Little did he know that the Lions would go on to produce some of the top players and Pro Football Hall of Famers. Coach Prime Deion Sanders reveals his Detroit Lions draft excuse

Former Detroit Lions legend Barry Sanders turned his team around when he joined the franchise in 1989. But during the 1997 NFL Draft, Deion Sanders willed with all his might and tried all he could to avoid getting into Detroit. He put forward his excuse in a statement if Detroit gets him saying, “I was kinda scared. I thought if Detroit was gonna take me, I would ask for so much money they would’ve had to put me on layaway.“ 

During his playing career, Deion Sanders was a two-way sports star who played both football and baseball. He was known for being a dangerous return and top-flight corner who was one of the top NFL prospects. Even if he missed the target in the NFL, his baseball talents would have secured him a successful future in MLB. But his money excuse is what gave the world the splits as he breaks down his confession during an interview with ESPN after Barry Sanders was drafted by the Lions. Coach Prime was ultimately drafted by the Atlanta Falcons.
