New traditions are added to CFB this season, and they are not welcomed by all. A farewell due to which a player misses out on some of the most significant postseason games is obliged to get some resistance. Players opting out of CFB ahead of the Bowl games have taken the college football community by storm. Some of the first people to shed some light on the issue is Colorado Buffs’ ‘media guy’ Deion Sanders Jr.

The reason for the choice being one: the 2024 NFL draft. The top players are willing to miss out on Bowl games in favor of preparing for the NFL draft One of the earliest people to comment on the issue was Deion Sanders Jr. “Boys opting out that aren’t even top 3 rounds..that’s wild” commented Sanders Jr. While it might be a taunt on his end, the comment prompted a proper dissection.

Deion Sanders Jr.’s comments elicit mixed responses

” I’ve got mixed emotions on this” were the very first words of ‘Prime Time for College Football’ host as soon as he read out Sanders Jr’s comment out loud. Speaking on the new tradition CFB players have started this season of opting out of Bowl games, the analyst commented, “When you got guys that are later round guys, like fifth, sixth, seventh round guys, opting out, I don’t blame them it’s to protect the bag.”

However, there was one real reason which, per him, was the culprit in the whole situation. “I think with a bigger picture here is that bowl season used to mean something, and it’s becoming less and less meaningful,” admitted he. Well, he could only hope that the next season won’t present such scenarios given the dissolution of Pac-12 and the playoff committee adopting a fresher way of getting to the national championship, the 12 teams in the playoff approach. However, the decision for next year will possibly not bring back the players the team counted on and lost for their Bowl games this season.

The list has to be shocking, especially when it starts with reigning Heisman champion LSU QB Jayden Daniels, who opted out of the Tigers’ ReliaQuest Bowl matchup. Along with him, Ohio State’s star WR All-American pick Marvin Harrison opted out of the Cotton Bowl. Both of them are seen as top-five picks in the upcoming NFL draft.
