“Great Crime Has Been Against Florida”: Spotlight Turned $3 Billion Deal as Scathing Allegations Hurled at Playoff Committee for Picking Texas

The rage surrounding the CFP ranking released on Sunday is tough to tackle. Texas Longhorns and Alabama Crimson were selected as two of the top four teams of among all conferences, despite having a loss hanging beside them. Whereas Florida State University, which had a blazing season with zero losses, was simply overlooked. Naturally, this gave all the football analysts a golden opportunity to take a brutal dig at the selection committee, which is exactly what Jason Whitlock did.
The Deion Sanders detractor extended his denunciation to the committee, spitting harsh facts about the decision. Not only did he address the turmoil of FSU authorities and fans alike, but he also shed light on a multi-million deal of a conference, making a terrific connection with the rankings.

While the rankings occupied the spotlights, SEC’s deal with Disney-owned broadcasting major ESPN remained on the sidelines. Yet, Whitlock did not shy away from aiming his jab directly at the CFP selection committee for ‘favoring’ certain teams. “Florida State fans believe the selection committee invited Texas and Alabama to the playoffs because ESPN and ABC have exclusive broadcast rights to SEC football beginning in 2024 which will include Texas hints overriding the Network’s ACC affiliation,” asserted Whitlock, as precisely as he could point it out.

The SEC conference struck a $3 billion mammoth deal with Disney, handing over the broadcasting rights to the conference’s most popular football games, like the Iron Bowl match-up between Texas Longhorns and Alabama Crimson Tide. Following this, Disney’s companies, ESPN and ABC, will be broadcasting the games for the upcoming 10 years, starting in 2024. This will mark the demise of the SEC-CBS association of nearly three decades, benefiting the conference by almost $300 million per year, compared to the $55 million deal, a sixfold increment.

Whitlock, like many other fans and critics alike, seemed exasperated at the injustice served in exchange for FSU’s genuine efforts for the whole season. “A crime has been committed against Florida State,” aggravated the ‘Fearless’ host.
So much so that he empathized with the Florida State fans when he said, ” Florida State’s players would be thrilled with an ACC Championship and a Bowl match-up against Georgia. But the new system has made them victims.” The victims were not just FSU, as teams like Ohio State had shreds of hope as well with their 12-1 record, same as Texas and Alabama, all drowning being so close to the shore.
