NFL franchise Washington Commanders are leveling up their social media presence with their latest acquisition. It is not a new player but an influencer. The Commanders will be bringing in social media influencer Katie Feeney as their social media correspondent following a tryout in January. It will be a big step up for Feeney, who has 7 million TikTok and 900,000 Instagram followers.

It would be safe to say her January invitation audition was a success, and the effect of the tryout was showing differences.

While talking about her audition, Feeney states, “I was shooting behind-the-scenes content of the players warming up, hanging out with the fans, anything they did before the game, essentially.” She even brought in an increased amount of activity on the Commanders’ social media channels than before.

Even the franchise social media director, Kevin Kline, shares how she and the organization were interested in pursuing a future partnership. It marks the first time an NFL franchise was hiring an expert for such a position. She recognizes this as a new sphere and believes it is an opening for many other influencers like her.

Feeney admits she has been a lifelong fan of the Commanders franchise with her family. They have even gone to games together. As a freshman at Penn State in college, she caught the eye of the Commanders with her work. Her work also brought her a lot of earnings, around $2 million. However, it also brought her challenges, but she persevered and made her stronger.
