The Green Bay Packers have had Aaron Rodgers at the heart of their attack since 2008. While the player has just turned 39 this year, the organization already has plans to replace him when the time comes, with backup Jordan Love waiting on the sidelines for his turn as the main guy. However, following A-Rod’s back-to-back MVP campaigns, they awarded him with a 3-year contract extension. According to an insider, this could prove detrimental to the team’s succession plan for the player.

According to some reports, it looks like there will be no Love left to replace Rodgers now. Packers’ insider Jason Wilde claims that if number 12 returns for another season, then that would spell disaster for the front office. While Rodgers is more likely to return than not, Love will want a trade away from Wisconsin. “I had a really great conversation with Jordan [Love] on Friday afternoon. I think he very clearly, even though he wouldn’t flat-out say it, he does not want to sit for another year,” revealed Wilde.

The Packers drafted Love as the 26th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. This came as a big surprise to the fans, who were expecting a special pick to help Rodgers. But from the get-go, it was clear that the Packers wanted a replacement in hand for an aging quarterback. Since then the 24-year-old has been biding his time on the sidelines getting a minimal amount of games. This will be his third season with the team and within this time he has only played 9 games while starting only 1.

Where the Packers expected to prepare Jordan for the role, losing him would cost three years of hard work. Both from the coaching staff and the player’s end. Moreover, A-Rod will be making huge money from his 3 years-$150 million deal. But according to Wilde, another year of waiting is not an option for Love. “So, if we get to year four, and Rodgers does come back, I am fairly confident that he will seek a trade,” Wilde said.
