It’s the culmination of a season’s worth of hard work and determination. But the league is no stranger to controversies. The latest on the list, however, is more of a prediction that came true than a controversy. It involves referee Carl Cheffers. The video, which was recorded during the game, shows Cheffers interacting with players and coaches on the sidelines. During a break in the action, Cheffers can be heard talking to a game official. “Last possession wins, dude”, Cheffers is heard saying. The official responds by saying, “Yeah, you got a shootout on your hands.”

As it turned out, Cheffers was right. The game was a back-and-forth affair, with both teams trading blows and neither team able to pull away. But in the end, Cheffers’ prediction came true as the Chiefs ran the clock down to just a few seconds and won the game on Harrison Butker’s field goal.
