While speaking to Kenny and the hosts of the show, Big Ben made his method clear. He spoke about how he would rely on the teammates who played backup QB with him. The QB mentioned how he did not want any advice from his coaches. Roethlisberger spoke about his backup QBs highly and said, “I don’t want to talk to any coach when I come off. I want to sit down with one of my guys we’ll talk about it and then they would know that it was okay now you know it’s time to come in.”

Admittedly, Roethlisberger had a good support system when he was a QB for the Steelers. He even mentioned a few whiles on the podcast and gave them an ode for their helping hands during the game.

Backup QBs during Big Ben’s days

While Big Ben has been a legendary QB for the Steelers, he has had a good support system in terms of his backups. Three of the most prominent of those have been Tommy Maddox, Charlie Batch, and Byron Leftwich. Big Ben mentioned them and explained how they’ve been good support systems as a quarterback for him. He spoke about how all the backups were able to set aside their egos and help out when a game needed to be won. All in all, he praised the kind of support they’ve lent him.

While Big Ben has been a self-sufficient QB with his style of play, his support system in his teammates has been incredible. It only remains to be seen if such a close relationship to work toward a win can be emulated in today’s QBs.
