Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson Shares an Interesting Anecdote on Playing Alongside NFL Legend Ray Lewis in College: ‘Played Two Quarters He Finished the Game With 18 Tackles’

Dwayne Johnson recently made an appearance at the Monday Night Football Manningcast during the Wild Card matchup between the Los Angeles Rams and the Arizona Cardinals. He was a good fit for the show and a delight to watch him share a conversation with the Manning brothers. And though not being associated with the NFL, he is no stranger to football.

As many of his fans might know, during his days in college, The Rock used to play for the Miami Hurricanes as a defensive end. However, he did not see much action during the games, but he has played alongside some of the greatest footballers of all time, including the legendary linebacker, Ray Lewis.

Lewis used to play for the Baltimore Ravens and had a very notorious image among the quarterbacks. Even the most elite class of quarterbacks including, Peyton Manning, feared the linebacker. Lewis being an alumnus of the University of Miami, used to be teammates with The Rock.

Since the two celebrities shared a part of their lives with the former Ravens linebacker, the conversation was driven towards him. Peyton shared an interesting anecdote on how he used to get bullied after being tackled down by him. Dwayne Johnson shared a story of how Lewis got the starting role as a middle linebacker though being a freshman.

“Ray Lewis is my boy,” the Rock said. “I’ve remained close to him for years and we’re still close today. Ray Lewis came in as a freshman. Our starting middle linebacker who you guys know, Michael Barrel great Giants linebacker. He got hurt we were playing Colorado.”

“Ray Lewis came in Colorado game starting the second half,” he continued. “We were on the road playing Colorado. They had a great team back then. Ray Lewis finished the game, played two quarters he finished the game with 18 tackles. And he never lost his starting job. He went on to become of course the greatest of all time.”

Though, Dwayne did not play most of the games. It’s no surprise that Ray Lewis was a gifted linebacker and a super skilled athlete. He later became the starter of the team in the last five games that season as a freshman. He was also named in the freshman All-American team.
