Former New York Giants RB Wins $28.5 Million Against Doctor Who He Claims Cost Him an NFL Career

The NFL is popular for its hardcore robust games. Filled with high-octane physicality, hits and bruises that come with the territory, for some unfortunate players. An injury can mark the end of their career. Now, a former New York Giants running back, Michael Cox, also suffered a similar fate. However, He has recently won a hefty compensation for it.

Michael Cox, the Former Running Back for the New York Giants, was just awarded a $28.5 million windfall. The player just won a lawsuit he filed against a renowned physician, Dr Dean Lorich. In a 2014 NFL game against The Seattle Seahawks, a tackle left the player with a broken ankle.

After the incident, he went under the knife, and Dr Dean Lorich performed corrective surgery on the player. However, he was never able to get back to the field. Consequentially, he then files a lawsuit against the doctor. Alleging that it was the fault of the doctor, who did not fully repair his ankle.

What the ex-New York Giants player won in compensation

Recently, ‘The New York Post’ reported that the jury sided with the player. He was awarded a large sum of $28.5 million. Furthermore, the compensation is divided into three parts. $15.5 million for future pain and suffering. While $12 million is for lost earnings. And $1 million for past pain and suffering.

The New York Giants Drafted the player in the 7th round of the 2013 NFL draft. In his one-and-a-half seasons in the NFL, the player only managed to play 18 games. While his 4.2 yards per game will not jump at you, it is hard to say what could have been for him and how long he could have played in the league if not for the injury.

How the team dealt with the player’s injury

To replace the player the New York Giants lost, they brought in multiple different players. One of the most prominent names in that list was the former New England Patriots Running back Shane Vereen. He was brought in after a Super Bowl-winning campaign.

However, their most important addition in the past years has been Saquon Barkley. The giants drafted the running back in 2018 with their valuable 2nd overall pick. And he has been very solid since then with a few down seasons but has still managed to show his burst of potential.
