The biggest dilemma for high school athletes is to make a definite choice for their professional careers. While they’re in high school, students get the liberty to dangle between multiple sports. Football, basketball, baseball, you name it. However, once college decision time comes around, high school athletes must pick one sport and stick with it. Most have to make a decision, NFL or MLB?
In this scenario, most students are actively choosing and have been choosing football over baseball. As per NFL broadcaster Colin Cowherd, there are three ground-breaking reasons for this. The US is a football-loving nation, and the perks offered in college-level football are way more than baseball.

Colleges in the US offer D1 scholarships to football giants in high schools. After all, that is the traditional route of how one gets into the football circle to gain recognition by a major league scout. Additionally, Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, and Patrick Mahomes, all MVP athletes, chose football. They utilized the scholarships to push themselves forward in their careers.

Similarly, the NFL broadcaster cites college scholarship as a major factor for high school athletes choosing football over baseball. He lists deals and endorsements with the value attached to a quarterback as other reasons to make his case.
The perks offered to high school athletes before and after they get into the NFL
In his show, Cowherd said, “Number one, if you’re a high school baseball and football star, football will offer you a full scholarship. Four years, college is free. Baseball doesn’t. Baseball doesn’t have 85 full ride scholarships per team, I believe the number is 11.3, maybe 1 guy in a baseball team has a full ride, rest of them have to pay on their own. You don’t think that matters.”

He added, “The second thing is in football if you’re a quarterback, you’re a star. The second you get into the NFL and even if you aren’t full time stuff, the endorsement station leaves year one. Patrick Mahomes has over 15 current endorsements. Mike Trout once did a subway commercial.”

While speaking about the third reason, Cowherd said it is all about the sport, pitcher or quarterback. The sport is so much about the quarterback. The team protects their QBs and pays them like no one else on top of their endorsements. A lot of the game is about name image likeness and pay scale differences between quarterbacks and baseball players. Therefore, football is preferred over baseball.
