Tom Brady’s ex-wife, Gisele Bündchen also faced similar struggles in her early life. Despite having established herself as one of the top supermodels in the world, the Brazilian beauty had a humble beginning. She even outlined these struggles in her memoirs, sharing the wisdom and experience she has gathered over the years.

Having fabricated an enormous bag of tricks, the supermodel went on to share a particular habit of hers that made others perceive her as confident.

Kicking the door down

Early on in her career, Gisele Bündchen had to make peace with the fact that she looks ‘different’ from other models. But that wasn’t necessarily a bad thing, on the contrary, it made her stand out. Soon, people started to notice her infamous walk, something that made her look confident.

As Gisele recalls in her memoirs, “Another way many people thought I was confident—but which was actually something else entirely—was my way of walking the runway. As time went on, I became known for what some people called my “horse walk.” I would raise my knee high and kick my foot forward, which created the overall impression of a stomping mare. It had another effect, too: it made the girl modeling on the runway—she, her—feel proud, strong, confident, and determined. I looked as if I were kicking things out of the way.

Heels are difficult

Gisele’s unique walk earned her the reputation of being ‘confident and fearless’. But the walk was an involuntary thing, all thanks to the incredibly painful high heels that she had to wear all the time.

The truth is, I had no other choice. My feet are size 8, and I am five feet eleven. The high heels that models wear are towering, making it almost impossible, in my case, to keep my legs straight. Imagine being my height and balancing on small feet inside very high heels, and you’ll understand that my horse walk was just a way for me to keep from toppling over.”

Bündchen went on to say that the heels were so incredibly painful that she would take them off as soon as she got backstage.

Her newly found confidence helped with her focus as well, as she could see her dreams manifest slowly. Determined to climb the mountain top, Gisele made it a point to show up with a smile, no matter what she was dealing with.
