During CBS Sports’ Maggie and Perloff, Seth Wickersham put his claims on the heavily debated topic. The history revealed that it was not Ryan Fitzpatrick, Ryan Tannehill, or Derek Carr. But the senior ESPN writer suggested an exotic name. Wickersham believes it to be Brady’s ex-teammate and current 49er, Jimmy Garoppolo.

Seth Wickersham mentioned, “I think it’s Garoppolo… [Brady] wanted to be a 49er. He was reaching out to the 49ers saying, ‘Just so you know, if you want me, I won’t even go on a free agency tour. Open and closed, I would like to be a 49er.’”

“The 49ers had just come off that Super Bowl loss. They knew Brady was better than Jimmy G, but they were worried about displacing a popular locker room leader. They worried about some of the film that Brady had. Kyle Shanahan had the entire offensive staff watch all of his snaps in 2019. At the end of the day, they decided to stay put.”

The claims by the ESPN Insider do not come out of nowhere. He wrote in his book ‘It’s Better to Be Feared’ that Tom Brady contacted his buddy and ex-49ers WR mentor Wes Welker to make his availability heard in the organization.
