Jerry Jones does not mince his words. At 80, The Dallas Cowboys Owner, President and GM is extremely passionate about the franchise. Sometimes that’s good for the Cowboys, and sometimes it’s not. Over the years, former players and coaches have shared various incidents to paint a clearer picture of Jones’ authority.

Former Cowboy defensive end and current ESPN analyst Marcus Spears recently told Ringers journalist, Kevin Clark, about the time, when Jerry Jones called a team meeting to show them the new AT&T stadium where he issued a warning to all the players. “Jerry Jones is one of the most DGAF people on earth. And when you got billions of dollars and you know that you’re the head honcho when you step into a meeting room with 32 owners in the NFL, you say and do what you will,” said Spears.

Jerry Jones made it clear that he will do whatever is necessary to pay the bills

The $1.3 billion AT&T stadium was the brainchild of Jerry Jones. Since 2009, it has been the “crown jewel” of all stadiums. But the 3-time Super Bowl champion Cowboys GM, didn’t hesitate to talk about his expectations from the players. In a team meeting before the inauguration of the new stadium, Jerry told the players that the stadium was very expensive to build.

Marcus Spears recalled how the fearless Cowboys owner gave them an ultimatum of sorts. They had two options; either The Cowboys play and win to fill the stadium seats, or Jerry will have to get rodeo boxing matches and march madness to fill the empty seats. Either way, Jerry Jones wasn’t taking a loss on his new venture.

After spending nearly $80 million per month during the development of the AT&T stadium, Jones made it clear that the boys had no choice but to play as hard as they can. Otherwise there would be different people occupying the seats the next year, implying the end of the Cowboys.

Previously, Jones had also justified The Cowboys losing in the playoffs and said he was satisfied with the TV ratings the game generated.

This wasn’t the only time Jerry Jones said something Outrageous

Jerry says and does as he pleases. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell recently held an NFL owners-only meeting to discuss the opening of contract negotiations. Jerry Jones and Patriots owner Robert Kraft had a heated exchange in the meeting with Jones even dropping the F-bomb on the New England owner. The owners voted 31-1 with The Dallas Cowboys owner being the only one to vote against the compensation committee.

Former Cowboys defensive coach, Dave Wannstedt, also shared an interesting Jerry Jones incident on The Colin Cowherd podcast. Jones had a rocky relationship with former head coach Jimmy Johnson. In a presser, the owner had said that he could find 500 guys who could replace Jimmy and win the Super Bowl. According to Wannstedt, this led to the unfortunate end of the relationship between Jimmy and the Cowboys.

Currently, Jerry is rooting for a quarterback controversy in his own organisation. Dak Prescott returned from injury and led the Cowboys to a 24-6 victory over the Detroit Lions on SNF. Prescott threw for 207 yards on 19 of his 25 pass attempts with 1 touchdown. On the other hand, Cooper Rush has been magnificent for Dallas this season in Dak’s absence. Rush had three impressive 4th quarter drive comeback wins in the three games he started. And Jerry Jones loves this competition.

Jerry Jones believes the Cowboys are Super Bowl contenders this season. He has already brought back defensive co-ordinator Dan Quinn for a second season. Only time will tell if current HC Mike McCarthy and Jerry Jones can maintain a smooth relationship in the future.
