Days after Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford was placed in concussion protocol, an announcement regarding his teammate Cooper Kupp has saddened the NFL world.

Suffering from a high ankle injury, Kupp will have to undergo surgery. The wide receiver will be placed on the injury reserve list. Following this, Stafford’s wife, Kelly, took to Instagram to call out the league’s negligence.

Matthew Stafford’s wife calls out the NFL
This is not the first time Kelly Stafford, the wife of Matthew Stafford, has spoken out about the way the league handles players’ injuries.
Her Instagram statement said, “@nfl do something. Show that you wanna make it better for future generations. Saying it doesn’t matter what these men play on is complete negligence on your part. @nfl”.

Attention has been drawn to concerns surrounding turf fields. Players and coaches have spoken about the risks of playing on them.

Cooper Kupp made his stance known regarding the issue with a clear message. His statement on Twitter said, “I believe that we — and all teams — should be playing on grass. This is an age-old issue, and I believe the time to address the problem is now! Let’s have the conversation,”
Other players address the issue
Wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. called out the NFL after the Giants’ Sterling Shepard tore his ACL. The rise in the number of non-contact injuries this season has called for attention to the dangerous playing conditions.

Green Bay Packers linebacker De’Vondre Campbell spoke out after his teammate Rashan Gary suffered a torn ACL. Campbell mentioned the fact that players have been getting injured on turf fields for two consecutive weeks.
Campell called out the NFL by saying, “I think it’s time y’all take some of the money y’all make off us and invest in grass fields for every team around the league.” The linebacker also added the fact that the turf literally feels like concrete saying “it has no give when you plant“
Concerns regarding playing conditions continue to be raised by the NFL world. Fans will hope that the league takes action for the sake of players’ well-being.
