As Deshaun Watson gets suspended for the 2022 season, speculations around Baker Mayfield’s return have been sparking among fans. But does the QB have the desire to return to the Browns? Interestingly, he believes that he will be open to reconciliation with the Browns, but on one condition. Conversely, Mayfield has his mind set on joining his new team after the trade is final.

The Browns opted for Deshaun Watson to be the replacement of the former Browns QB. However, since the NFL board has found Watson guilty on several sexual misconduct charges, the team feels the need to revert to their star QB. Although the Browns have been unsuccessful in trading Mayfield this offseason, it might come to them as more of a relief than a bane.

The Browns were engaging with the Carolina Panthers constantly for a potential Mayfield trade in the offseason. More so, the Panthers were in an urgency to get the QB. They wished to involve him with the team in the mandatory minicamp before the preseason in mid-June.

However, the deal is still in a grey area due to his salary negotiations and final pay cut. Moreover, Mayfield is still open to a retention; but he already made up his mind to move on from the Browns earlier. Therefore, he has set a condition for a return.

Baker Mayfield says he will consider returning if the Browns reach out to him first

Reflecting on the condition he has set for a potential return to the Cleveland Browns, he said, “I think for that to happen, there would have to be some reaching out.” Even though he made up his mind on moving on, the QB is eyeing his former team to reach out to them. However, he added, “But we’re ready to move on, I think, on both sides.”

It was frustrating for him that the trade didn’t happen before the minicamp. But he has no hard feelings for his former team. Mayfield remarked, “I’m thankful for my four years in Cleveland. A ton of ups and downs and learning experiences I’ll forever keep with me. The people in Cleveland, it’s a great sports town. I’m thankful for it and there’s no resentment to the city of Cleveland by any means.”
