The Cleveland Browns have been long waiting for this moment. Although many in the NFL community will not agree with the Browns’ decision, one cannot help but wonder how this will shape up their offense. The Browns’ $230 million QB Deshaun Watson turned up for practice with the team, after serving his 11-game suspension. And based on what he showcased, the Browns seem to have high hopes for their future.

Watson’s performance during practice thoroughly impressed offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt. “He looked good. I know he’s been working hard while he’s been away from the building. Excited to see him out there. He made some throws after practice in what we call an ‘opportunity period.’ You’re like, ‘Oh, OK, that’s impressive stuff.’ So he looks good… He’s been in the room for a while now, so I think he has a good understanding of how we work in a game week and transitioning him in when the time comes.”

The excitement seems to be seeping on through to the players as well. Veteran receiver Amari Cooper, who had one practice session with Watson on Thursday, is already singing his praises. “It was cool just being able to see him out there. Like I said, in the last interview with you guys, had greatness on display. We’ve seen that greatness on display from Deshaun over and over again. So anytime you’re around a great player it’s just great to see, great to be around.”

Watson signed a $230 million guaranteed, 5-year deal with the Browns at the start of this season. Even though the Browns knew Watson wouldn’t be able to play for 11 games, they still believe he could be the savior the team needs so badly. In 54 games with the Houston Texans, he completed 1,186 passes for 14,539 yards and 104 touchdowns. A performance that the Browns have deemed worthy of their trust, and over 200 million.

In comparison, last season the Browns were able to manage 3,619 passing yards in 520 pass attempts. It sure seems that Watson could prove to be the key to their success this year, where they have only managed 2,074 yards in 9 games. And more importantly, have lost 6 of those games.

Watson faced an 11-game suspension last year after a number of civil lawsuits were filed against him. The plaintiffs claimed that he made sexually inappropriate advances towards them and/or sexually harassed them. The lawsuits emerged at a time when he was in a standoff with the Texans, wherein he refused to play, and demanded that he be traded.

His 11-game suspension means his first game for the Browns will be against his old team, the Texans, on December 4. Will Watson become his new team’s favorite by trouncing his old home?
