In Sunday’s 17-13 victory over the Seahawks, a social media skirmish erupted between Bengals‘ standout Ja’Marr Chase and Seahawks’ rookie cornerback Devon Witherspoon. As the league heads into week 6, the Bengals now stand at a (3-3) win-loss record, while the Seahawks are holding strong at (3-2).

The crux of the matter unfolded during the game, with Chase attempting to outmaneuver Witherspoon on the field but failing to secure the ball in two critical moments. Nevertheless, Ja’Marr Chase didn’t hesitate to take the battle to Instagram, where he playfully taunted the Seahawks’ rookie cornerback, Devon Witherspoon.

In the lead-up to the Seahawks matchup, Chase had confidently declared, “He’s going to get the opportunity to get the matchup, and we’ll see who wins the matchup.” And, CB Witherspoon’s performance was commendable, successfully defending against three passes and contributing four tackles during the game. Although Ja’Marr Chase, star wide receiver, ventured onto the Seahawks’ Instagram page and left a comment on a photo featuring the rookie CB, Witherspoon.

In his comment, Chase typed, “LOL HOLD THAT L,” a casual jab that translates to “Laugh out loud, take that loss.” Notably, NFL insider Dov Kleiman reported the incident, highlighting that the Bengals secured the victory even though Chase was unable to make any catches while being covered by Witherspoon, who concluded the game with 3 passes defended and 4 total tackles.

However, after Ja’Marr Chase posted his “LOL HOLD THAT L” comment on the Seahawks’ page, Witherspoon responded by sharing the image with a “🤧” emoji, suggesting a hint of playful rivalry. Others chimed in, with one individual noting, “All that matters is the final score,” while another humorously quipped, “Spoon fed like a baby all second half!!!”

Reportedly, in the NFL’s Top 100 Players of 2023 list: Bengals’ WR Ja’Marr Chase lands at No. 39, slipping 15 spots from his rookie year ranking, a testament to the fierce competition in the league. While in the 2023 regular season, his statistics are as follows: WR has made 50 receptions, accumulating a total of 556 yards and scoring three touchdowns. On average, he gains 11.1 yards with every reception.

Whereas, in the game against the Seahawks, Ja’Marr Chase caught 6 passes out of the 13 that were thrown his way, resulting in a total of 80 yards gained.

In the same season, Devon Witherspoon, the Seattle Seahawks cornerback, boasts the following statistics: He has executed 20 solo tackles, forcing no fumbles and securing one interception. Furthermore, he has defended against seven passes thrown by the opposing team and protected the Seahawks’ defense.

Notably, last week against the Bengals, Witherspoon made a total of 4 tackles, and each of them was a solo tackle.
