The two-hour call that saved Tashaun Gipson’s future
The San Francisco Chronicle recently covered a heartfelt story of the Pro Bowl involving Tashaun Gipson. Gipson previously played for the Cleveland Browns in his initial years in the NFL. The safety had received a $989 bonus cheque from the team. In May 2012, an undrafted Wyoming player, Gipson, was facing a challenging rookie minicamp with the Niners as he was skeptical about the NFL.

At that point in time, Tashaun Gipson only had a contract offer from the Browns. He went outside the place he was staying at to avoid his roommates hearing his conversation with his mom and sat on a curb. The player was all set to join his father in their family business of trucking. However, life had different plans for him. He talked to his mom about coming back home. To this, his mom told him to stick it out.
He said, “’It’s a long shot. It’s not going to happen. I might as well just start my life.” But now, after so many years, his life is completely different as he took that shot. He credited that to the 2-hour long conversation with his mom. Even though he is not talked about, he still manages to break into the headlines now and then. Like recently, when he commented about the Cowboys’ players.
