Gronk is set to fight former NFL Pro Bowler Shawne Merriman in an MMA fight at the Lights Out Xtreme Fighting event organized by Merriman. The fight is slated to take place at the Los Angeles Marriott Burbank on May 6, 2023. Gronk will be up against former San Diego Chargers and Buffalo Bills LB Shawne Merriman, better known as “Lights Out.”

Gronk and Merriman even got into a spat on Twitter as the two went back and forth with jabs at each other. “It’s a shame I have to teach you what your “catch phrase” really means,” Gronk said, replying to Merriman’s fight announcement. Gronk, of course, was looking to lay out the former Pro Bowl LB with his ‘Lights Out’ catchphrase.

This isn’t Gronk’s first rodeo in the fighting ring

This definitely isn’t Rob Gronkowski’s first appearance in the fighting game. The four-time Super Bowl winner has seen his fair share of fights. He hosted WrestleMania 36 in 2020 and won the WWE 24/7 championship. It certainly shouldn’t be surprising to see Gronk participate in combat sports again after his second retirement from football.
