2016 and Simone Biles, a time when the name was heard but not yet echoed through the gymnastics hall of fame. Just before her debut at the Rio Olympics, she tweeted, “I’d rather regret the risk that didn’t work out than the chances I didn’t take at all.” Years later, she fought her mental health and returned to gymnastics, a tale in itself. Only god might know how many people this quote and her tale inspired, but a similar spirit was shown by this young gymnast. But what is the feat?
Planet of Gymnastics took to their Instagram on June 10, 2025, to report the impossible. They posted a video of a girl catching a Hindorff. A Hindorff is a high-level release move performed on the uneven bars in women’s artistic gymnastics. In the video posted by the account, the gymnast could be seen generating momentum through a powerful swing at first. She then releases the high bar and launches into the air. In mid-flight, she executes a front salto in a straddle position. Now mid-air, at the peak of her motion, she spots the bar and prepares to grasp it, and as she descends, she does.
Talking about it, she said, “I have put everything I have into this skill and it’s finally getting consistent. I am really trying to get some attention this year as I head into my senior year, in hopes of getting on a college gymnastics team 🙌“But what is astonishing about this move? Gymnastics is a sport where this kind of performance is required, right? Well, not when you are blind in one eye. in the header of the video, it read, “uncommitted class of 2026, Kendall Anderson, catches Hindorff despite being 100% blind in her right eye due to an accident when she was younger ❤️”

However hard it might be for Kendall to swing around the bars, jump the vaults, and perform all the gymnastics skills with just one eye, her spirit to attempt and execute it shows that she has great willpower. And she is not alone in the group.

The young gymnastics star is not alone
Over the years, there have been many gymnastics stars who have been blind in one eye and have demonstrated great skills on the apparatus. Aimee Walker‑Pond is an American gymnast who overcame being completely deaf and blind in one eye to compete at the highest levels. She trained at UCLA, where she won a national championship, before transferring to BYU and earning top scores, such as a 9.825 on uneven bars in 2007. She reached the international elite level, competed at Olympic trials in 2000, and later became a motivational speaker and coach.
