Over the weekend, Simone Biles made two very different kinds of headlines. On one hand, she quietly deleted her X (formerly Twitter) account, just days after issuing a public apology that followed her online clash with swimmer Riley Gaines. However, this is not the case for Instagram, a platform where she continues her social media activities. In fact, she has been exceptionally active in the past few hours, on account of a special occasion– finally a fun break from the Twitter hassle she was caught in…
On the occasion of Olympic Day, June 23, Simone Biles added a string of Instagram stories as the 3x medalist visited the memory vault from her Olympic appearances. After all, she might have so many memories to look back to from Rio, Tokyo, and Paris. So right from her crazy celebratory dances with Laurie Hernandez and Aly Raisman to pulling off the Biles 2 on Paris vault, and celebrating her 2024 Olympic gold wins at the after party, she posted it all. But one story still stood out among the lot.
Amid a variety of posts, Simone Biles put out one particular story where she got emotional. Sharing a snippet from the 2024 Paris Olympics women’s artistic gymnastics team qualifications round, where she’d pulled up and was getting her ankle taped after competing on the uneven bars. Simone Biles shared the famous picture where she sat on the floor while the Team USA medic rushed to check her injury flare-up. And with that picture, Biles also added a note, “she is beauty, she is grace, dr maria saved my lifeeeee…” She even added a punchline, “i know i got my honorary doctorate or whatevaaaaaa, but if you ever need a real DR, call her, not me hahahahaa”

Well, this memory had to matter! It was reflective of Simone Biles’ grit, as she’d been dealing with a sore calf for quite some time before the Paris Olympics and had pulled it up further during a floor warmup. Yet, she performed in the qualifications. In fact, despite her ankle taped, Biles posted the highest score on floor and vault through two subdivisions and finally led the all-around standings with a total of 59.566!

But this wasn’t the only story where she expressed gratitude for her Olympic journey and honored the day. Simone Biles even added a short night-view snippet of the Eiffel Tower sparkling and lit with five Olympic rings during the Games. With that, she penned a message full of gratitude, “okay I’m done, so blessed to go to 3 olympic games with team usa 🤍”

But while she diverted her mind and social media activity to the Olympics Day celebrations for a bit, the horrors of her recent feud with Riley Gaines lingered. Especially since it hasn’t even been 24 hours since Simone Biles deleted her X account, right amid her controversy with Gaines.
Simone Biles’ Twitter storm with Riley Gaines on rest for now
From 1.9M followers to “This account does not exist,” the Team USA 11-time Olympic gold medalist gymnast Simone Biles pulled off a drastic move recently. Biles appears to have deleted her X page in the midst of her fuming controversy with Riley Gaines. And now, the swimmer seems to have reacted to it.

Simone Biles' emotional Olympics Day post—does it show vulnerability or strength in her journey?
Have an interesting take?
Riley Gains added an X post responding to Simone Biles’ deletion move. She wrote, “has an incredibly unpopular and morally indefensible take – gets rightfully ridiculed for it – issues a groveling public apology after unrelenting backlash – deletes account to pretend it never happened Sad to see such a phenom go down like this…” Her message came with a sharp tone, mirroring the ongoing tension between the two athletes. While Gaines did not mention Biles by name, the timing and phrasing made it clear who she was addressing.
But Biles is now distanced from all this. On a different platform, she was busy celebrating her Olympic memories, giving no platform to any negativity. What do you think of this call? Let us know below!
