Simone Biles usually takes on life in her most fearless form! Imagine pulling off moves that throw you about 10 feet high up in the air. Well, that barely scares her. The gymnast has even overcome the mighty ‘twisties’ that can mess up a gymnast’s sense of spatial awareness and orientation. Even that couldn’t scare her enough to keep her away from the mats. But something recently gave her the jitters at the MET Gala 2025, despite her husband, Jonathan Owens’, assuring presence around her. Any guesses on what made the G.O.A.T. nervous?

Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens stepped out for the MET Gala 2025 in coordinated looks. While Biles added a bright pop of color to the eyes with her bright blue high-low dress with gems dazzling on the front, a huge bow at the back, and a gigantic trail, Owens opted for a more muted plain white suit with a blue brooch that went perfectly well with Simone’s dress. But here comes the main bit. Notably, Biles paired her entire MET gala look with long (five/six-inch) pointy blue heels with a silver charm near the toes. However, there was some part of the venue that made her feel underconfident about walking in those.

The sports pair stopped to speak to E! News at the MET Gala when Simone Biles made a big confession. And E! News reported it as, “While the Olympian felt confident she and Jonathan would pull off their subtle matching, she was more apprehensive about tackling the famous steps of the Met in six-inch heels.” Yep, it’s the stairs at the MET that seemed to have worried Simone Biles, even though she’d be walking in with her husband! “That’s what I do now,” the 4-foot-8 athlete confessed. She even added, “I feel like the stairs always make me nervous—I don’t know what it is, but I am not good with stairs.”

Well, this time, Simone Biles has Owens around in close proximity, to help her go up the famous MET stairs. But last year, she alone had managed things. That too in an 88-pound dress. Yes, in 2021, she carried herself up the stairs and around the venue in an 88-pound gown from AREA x Athleta. On the contrary, this time, she is wearing a much lighter outfit, featuring a short skirt and a rather “simple” design that she got customised from Harbinson Studio. Still, she is afraid of climbing the steps, foreseeing that something might go wrong.

That’s because, Simone Biles and stairs? Oh it’s a never-ending story. Remember when the 11-time Olympic medalist Simone Biles showed up on the Jimmy Fallon show in 2024? She’d narrated a whole incident of how she made a little cameo at the 2024 Paris Olympics closing ceremony, where she carried the Olympic flag and gave it over to Tom Cruise. That’s another moment when the stairs had made her nervous. “I’m always tripping, falling down stairs, like bad for me. So actually, that’s like the most nervous I was for the whole entire Olympics.”

Well, looks like the gymnast who pulls off tricky moves, like the Yurchenko double pike, a notoriously dangerous routine that nearly was banned, doesn’t get scared of its complexity but instead, of a harmless group of steps at big events. But that’s not the end of her insecurities. Simone Biles, at one point, was also wildly insecure about her hair. Yes, in 2024, during an interview with Elle, she confessed that she “used to worry about” her hair not looking professional. Thankfully, she has managed to move past that embarrassment. “I don’t really care if my edges aren’t smooth,” she said.
