The sports gods rarely play favorites, but when they do, they go all in. Skye Blakely is a prime example — gritty, gifted, and grinning in the face of fate. A torn Achilles once tried to rewrite her story, but she walked back in like she’d never left. 13 months later, Blakely is the moment, again. Yet behind the beam and sparkle, the pain still lingers quietly.
The rising sophomore at the University of Florida transformed her 2021 Olympic Trials heartbreak into redemption. In 2022, she claimed World Championship gold like the stars had it circled all along. But fate threw shade again. She snapped her Achilles right before the Paris 2024 team was named. Another storm. Another gut punch. And yet, she keeps chasing greatness like it owes her. Thus, to say Skye is just in time for the Xfinity U.S. Gymnastics Championships, 2025, would be an understatement. Because if you spend five minutes with this 20-year-old, you’ll see the fire—sharp, stubborn, and relentless.
Now, Blakely found her magic in May, back where it all began—Dallas. WOGA felt like home, and so did the hugs from her dog. With her OG coaches and longtime PT by her side, she crushed mental walls, built strength, and stitched confidence back into her comeback routine. “I had some bumps in part of the recovery of my Achilles, nothing terrible. Primarily, there was some discomfort that I had to work through, and spending that time at home working with my PT got me over that hard part,” Skye Blakely told Scott Bregman.

She added, “A lot of it was mental. At the beginning of the summer, I was actually like, ‘Oh man, I don’t know if I will do my [double back] beam dismount. I don’t know if we’ll see a round-off at all in my routine.’ But after working that month at home, coming back to Florida, I did a couple of days of round-off timers, and then there was one specific day on beam where I was talking with Anya [Pilgrim], and I’m like, ‘Should I just chuck my double back?’ And I made it.”
Skye Blakely opened 2024 like a storm—beam queen at the Winter Cup, runner-up to Kayla DiCello, then fifth at the Core Classic. At Nationals, she chased Simone Biles and landed second all-around. She soared on vault and bars, too. But during Olympic Trials podium training, fate struck cruelly again. Her right Achilles gave out. And that dream paused for 13 months.
LA28 sent a sharp jolt through Skye Blakely the moment the curtain closed on Paris. Her gut told her to sprint straight at it. But now, as the 2025 U.S. Championships hit New Orleans from August 7 to 10, she’s choosing grace over haste. Just bars and beams for now. The comeback is simmering, not boiling.

Not just the Xfinity Showdown, but LA28 is tingling Skye Blakely’s mind.
Skye Blakely wanted to go all in. All-around, all fire, all stages. But clarity came quietly. She stepped back, zoomed out, and chose the long game. 2025? That was never the final destination. LA28? That’s the crown jewel. So, she listened to her body, her people, her heart. Bars and beams became the plan. Not out of fear. But out of wisdom. And every voice in her corner echoed: yes.

Meanwhile, back in Gainesville, she kept things steady. But Dallas? That trip brought the glow back. WOGA felt like muscle memory and magic rolled into one. Her old coaches stood by. So did her trusted PT. She laughed with her family. She worked hard, breathed deeply, and healed slowly. What felt impossible weeks ago suddenly felt alive again. Feet planted. Eyes up. Skye knew—she was coming home to herself.

The Olympics are a whisper she hears without chasing. They’re always there, like a lighthouse in the fog. But her focus is here and now. Getting stronger. Honing skills. Meeting each day where it stands. She’s stacking wins, one quiet goal at a time. More difficulty, more finesse, more calm in the climb. No rush. No shortcuts. One powerful return, stretched across years, stitched with patience and fire.
