“There’s no excuse for leaving out Fraser-Pryce; she’s one of the greatest sprinters ever, and the world’s fastest mom—isn’t that a fantastic plot for an episode?” read a critic of the Netflix docuseries, Sprint: The World’s Fastest Humans. The series had a behind-the-scenes look at elite sprinters, their training, personal lives, and pursuit of medals. Season 1 follows the 2023 World Championships, while Season 2 focuses on the 2024 Paris Olympics. Much to the dismay of Jamaicans, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce was not in it.

But now, rumor has it that she might be getting one all for herself. The CaribbeanNewsNetwork took to its X account on September 27, 2025, to share a post about Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce signing a $13.5 million deal with Netflix. “Legendary sprinter, Shelley-Ann Fraser-Pryce, is reported to have signed a $13.5 million dollar contract with Netflix for a 7-episode series that will chronicle the “pocket rocket’s” inspiring journey in sprinting,” the tweet read.
Following the thread, additional information was that it won’t be a documentary but a tribute to the sprinting legend. Let us clarify that this news is still a product of the rumor mill.

Prominent Jamaican track and field journalist, Rori Dunk, was present in the comment section, and he only had one question: “Source?“. The news has neither been confirmed by Netflix nor by Shelly-ann or someone close to her. If it holds true, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is one of the most deserving athletes to be honored with such a tribute. With a career that has spanned more than two decades, she has seen Usain Bolt make and break records and retire. What else?

Three golds, four silver, and one bronze in a total of five Olympic Games she has played in. In the World Athletics Championships, she has ten golds for the show with six silver medals, and one bronze. Crazy numbers, and that’s only the beginning of her portfolio. Makes you question, who else, if not one of the greatest, to have worn those spikes, to whom that tribute should go. While many fans are excited to hear the news, many are questioning its authenticity.
Track and field community divided over Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce’s Netflix deal
Many of the fans are just questioning the legitimacy of the post. One said, “You sure this is correct“. One fan had also commented, “No official confirmation from Netflix or ShellyAnn.” Fans want the news to be officially confirmed by the sprinter or Netflix, because this is not the first time fake rumors have surrounded the track and field athlete. In April 2024, HKEsports Africa falsely used a photo of Shelly‑Ann Fraser‑Pryce, claiming that it showed Kelvin Kiptum’s wife training as a sprinter.
Fraser‑Pryce quickly responded on social media, expressing disbelief. “Not someone using my image ???🤔” She also firmly requested, “Please remove my image immediately. Thank you 👍🏾.” While these rumors about the Netflix series are yet to draw some words out of her, many fans are also excited that the Jamaican legend has been honored in such a way.
A fan commented, “Yessssss 🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲 I shall be ugly crying for the whole 7 episodes.” Fraser-Pryce has had the type of career where she could make you cry, laugh and even leave your jaw-dropped in awe. This is the athlete who clocked the fastest time of her life after becoming a mother, which is 10.60s at the 2021 Lausanne Diamond League. Zyon was born in 2017. Another comment read, “Must watch, hope they do one for Blake and Bolt too.”

Usain Bolt has been featured in documentaries like I Am Bolt and Usain Bolt: The Fastest Man Alive, which showcase his training, personal life, and record-breaking career, but another one wouldn’t hurt anyone, and his accolades need no introduction. While there is a documentary on YouTube called The Making Of The Beast, for Yoahn Blake, a Netflix series can do more justice to him. He is the second-fastest man ever in both the 100 m (9.69 s) and 200 m (19.26 s).
One fan suggested, “So yk who gonna be seated when this premieres Matter of fact, we need an exclusive screening at Carib and red carpet, the whole works”. That is a great idea if the rumor is true, don’t you agree?
