Sha’Carri Richardson’s 2025 season has been a rollercoaster, to put it mildly. The electrifying sprinter, known for her blazing speed and vibrant personality, has faced a whirlwind of challenges both on and off the track. After battling an injury that threw a wrench into her training, she’s been grinding to regain her form ahead of defending her 100m title at the World Championships in Tokyo this September. The USATF Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon, were supposed to be her proving ground, a chance to show the world she’s back and ready to dominate. But what unfolded off the track has left fans stunned. What happened to Sha’Carri at the Seattle airport? Reports are making rounds…

On Day 1 of the championships (July 31), Richardson hit the track with purpose. In the women’s 100m preliminaries, she clocked a season-best 11.07 seconds, finishing second in her heat and securing a spot in the semifinals. It wasn’t her fastest time ever, but for a sprinter coming off an injury, it was a promising sign. Day 2 list also confirmed her spot in the 100m semifinals, and she was also entered in the 200m events, setting the stage for a potential double. Fans were buzzing—could this be the moment Sha’Carri reclaims her throne?

But then, everything changed. Midway through the championships, Richardson’s name vanished from the start lists for both the 100m semifinals and her scheduled 200m races. No official statement came from her camp, just a vague note about her withdrawal. Whispers started circulating, and soon, a bombshell dropped: reports surfaced of an arrest at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport involving Richardson and her boyfriend, fellow elite sprinter Christian Coleman. What could have led to such a dramatic turn of events?

According to a police report obtained by LetsRun.com, the incident went down on Sunday night at the airport. Richardson and Coleman, who have been her partner for over two years, were caught in a heated altercation as they passed through security screening. Officer Paul Chung of the Port of Seattle Police Department detailed the scene, noting that security footage corroborated what unfolded. The report paints a chaotic picture:

“I saw on camera, that Coleman and Richardson were involved in a verbal altercation as they exited through security screening. Just outside the screening area, Richardson is following and getting close to Coleman several times as Coleman appears to be trying to walk away. Richardson then pushes Coleman hard enough that it sends him crashing into a nearby column. Coleman continues to try to walk away in an effort to get away from Richardson but she continues to bump into him and get into his personal space. She again pushes Coleman, again hard enough that it sends him flying a few feet away.

At this point, it appears Coleman goes back to the TSA screening lanes in an attempt to get help. Richardson continues to follow him, still getting close to his personal space, and she throws a pair of headphones at [sic] Richardson, striking him somewhere on his body.”

The police report doesn’t specify what sparked the argument, but it was serious enough to draw attention. Coleman, when interviewed by police, downplayed the incident, calling it a “heated argument” and insisting “nothing happened.” He refused to provide his name, share identification, or cooperate further, even declining to be considered a victim. But with video evidence in hand, the police didn’t need his cooperation.
