Bryson DeChambeau made it to the final eight of the Professional Long Drivers Association World Championship. However, the champion golfer then got eliminated in the subsequent round on Friday at Mesquite, Nevada. This was DeChambeau’s first try at this event, and he looked delighted with the way he performed.
DeChambeau got into the final day through a round-robin of 16 players. Moreover, his longest drive came in the first set, where he bombed a 406-yard drive. However, even this couldn’t give him a top spot in his group as Martin Borgmeier smashed a 416-yard drive.

Bryson DeChambeau names a current PGA Tour player who can compete on PLDA
In the post-round interview, a journalist asked DeChambeau which of his PGA Tour peers he thinks could have made it to say a round of 16 this week? “Tony Finau for sure,” said Bryson, without any hesitation. “Oh, ya, hundred percent for sure if he practiced a little bit with the swing. I know it’s not like the swing he makes on Tour, but he definitely has the potential.”
Interestingly, even though Bryson answered it to be Tony Finau, he isn’t known much for his distance game. Moreover, Finau is T31 in terms of driving distance, with 305.5 yards being his average distance off the tee in the 2020-21 PGA Tour season. But maybe DeChambeau has seen some potential in him and, hence, without any hesitation, picked Finau.
