As the 39th episode of the greatest rivalries of tennis took place in the semifinals of French Open 2019 with this match on clay, Rafael Nadal concludes his five-match losing streak against his longtime foe, Roger Federer. The Swiss concedes his sixth defeat to the ‘King of Clay’ at Roland-Garros as Rafa won 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 against Federer on the Parisian terre-battue.

The windy conditions on Court Philippe-Chatrier were not ideal for hosting the ‘Fedal’ encounter and the battle began with Rafael Nadal taking the opening break in the first set for a 2-0 lead. Roger Federer could settle for that but later after six deuces, the Swiss netted the ball and Rafa led by 4-2.

Rafael Nadal used his forehand weapon for defense as well offense, but in this match, his backhand was also showing some attacking style of tennis. Rafa’s backhand winner broke Federer’s serve as he sealed the set at 6-3.

Roger Federer came up with some defensive tennis and could take a 2-0 lead in the second set but Rafael Nadal dictated his dominance and with his angled backhands. Roger Federer had three games points, and Rafael Nadal bounced back to break the Swiss in that particular game and later got hold of the set, 6-4.

In the third set, Roger Federer was given a code violation as he netted his volley and got down by a break at 2-1. Situations were complicated for Federer as Nadal ranted to take a 4-1 lead in the final set.

Ultimately, it was the ‘Master of Mud’, Rafael Nadal who will play for his 12th title in Paris as he took out the World Number three tennis player, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 in the semifinals of Roland-Garros 2019 and now has conceded 24 victories against Roger Federer in his entire career.
