At last Lando Norris opened his account in the F1. After 110 starts, the British Belgian racer successfully ended the dominance of Max Verstappen to win the Miami Grand Prix. While racing fanatics worldwide celebrate the heroics of the first-time race winner, soccer icon David Beckham, who was unable to see the McLaren driver’s victory firsthand, expressed his pride in Norris’ win with a succinct 8-word congratulatory message.

The Inter Miami owner took to Instagram and posted a picture of the 24-year-old racer celebrating on his story. Becks wrote a caption saying, “Proud of you mate well done 🏆. MIAMI BABY,” while simultaneously adding a big flag of the United Kingdom. Certainly, the Manchester United icon looks elated about his countryman’s maiden title win. But why was Beckham not in attendance to watch the race from the stands, despite spending much of his time in the Magic City?

Unfortunately, the former England international is currently in London with his family. His birthday was last week on May 2, which could have been a reason for him to fly back to his country from the United States.  In fact, this isn’t the first time; even last year, he missed out on the Miami GP, which Max Verstappen had won. Nevertheless, Beckham is fervently boasting his countryman’s remarkable victory.

Notably, while it took Norris 110 starts to win his first race (also a mistake by Verstappen), with this victory, McLaren ended their 12-year exile in the United States. They last won the race in 2012, courtesy of another British driver, Jenson Button.

Meanwhile, amidst the remarkable Miami GP, Beckham found another reason to celebrate. His beloved team Inter Miami set the stage ablaze in Fort Lauderdale in his absence, with Lionel Messi stealing the show.

Celebrating the win, David Beckham shared a clip of all the goals on Instagram, adding a caption: “What a night in Miami 🔥 Another record broken 👏🏼 5 assists @leomessi @intermiamicf & a Hat-trick for our #9 luissuarez9 🩷🩷.” But in the aftermath of the match, Messi continued to be the focal point of discussions.

The Argentinian superstar became the first-ever player to score 5 goals and 5 assists in the same match. With this tally, he also remains the first MLS player to produce such numbers. Messi also leads Miami’s all-time leading assist provider with 16 in 25 games, surpassing Robert Taylor’s previous record of 15 assists in 87 games. Aside from his record-breaking 6 goal contributions in a single match, the skipper became the first player in history to surpass 1200 goal contributions. Indeed, the past few hours have been quite an emotional rollercoaster ride for David Beckham.
