The last few years might have seen La Pulga edge past his rival to arguably cement himself as the greatest player of all time. The 2023 edition of the Goal50 men’s award saw the Argentine bag, his record 7th title, reaching a massive milestone in his career.

Lionel Messi made history as he won his eighth Ballon d’Or award. The achievement put Messi in an elite place, with the player being the only name to win more titles than the combined winners from any nation around the world.

Lionel Messi has done what we have come to expect of him, yet again. Despite being in the final stages of his career, La Pulga shows no signs of stopping when it comes to collecting awards. The Inter Miami skipper surpassed Cristiano Ronaldo for another milestone this year as he bagged his record 7th Goal50 Men’s award.

Prior to his consecutive wins in 2022 and 2023, both Cristiano and Messi held the joint record for the award-winning it five times each. However, it seems like La Pulga has taken two steps forward from his rival following his latest win.

The Goal50 Men’s Award 2023 saw Lionel Messi surpass the likes of Erling Haaland, Kylian Mbappe, Jude Bellingham, and Kevin De Bruyne in public votes to win the coveted title. The awards also saw Cristiano Ronaldo miss out on making it into the top five for the first time since the awards’ inception.

Both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have tussled over multiple records in the past. The duo are undoubtedly the most successful players to play the game and will go down in history as the greatest soccer player of all time.

La Pulga continues to make history

2023 has been a special year for Lionel Messi. The Argentine has been bagging awards left right and center this year. The recently hosted Ballon d’Or awards, saw the Argentine win the record 8th Ballon d’Or.

With the award, La Pulga is now ahead of even nations such as France, Germany, Netherlands, and Portugal, who have won a combined seven Ballon d’Or titles each. Argentina is the only nation in the list with the most Ballon d’Or winners than any nation in the world (8), with their skipper bagging all the awards on his own.
