Soccer has produced some of the best talents through the decades. Only a few have left an indelible mark, with their unique set of skills and abilities. Imagine a player who has the qualities of all the finest stars of ‘the beautiful game’. Well, Scott McTominay unveiled his vision for the ultimate player—a composite of unparalleled skills exhibited by soccer’s luminaries. The idea came when Manchester United‘s lanky midfielder sat down for a special interview.

GOAL asked Scott McTominay to build his ideal player based on several skill sets. Starting with the pair of legs, he chooses both of the undisputable GOATS of the game: Lionel Messi for the left foot and Cristiano Ronaldo for the right one. In the category of speed, Frenchman Kylian Mbappe was called for. For strength, he took the name of his former Red Devils teammate and Belgian striker, Romelu Lukaku.

In the skills category, Barcelona icon and currently injured at Al Hilal, Neymar made the cut. In terms of overall soccer IQ, Scott McTominay took the name of Italy legend Andrea Pirlo. Indeed, this is ‘the ultimate player’ one can have in soccer. Not to forget, the Scottish midfielder has massively stepped up his own game this season.

Scott McTominay believes he can contribute more to Manchester United’s goal tally, despite already leading as the top scorer in the Premier League this season. Already having the role of defensive midfielder, the 27-year-old insisted on providing more on the attacking front. You have to take your moments. Thankfully, I’ve been able to do that in certain games, but I still can do much, much better,” he asserted on the club’s website

One take at a time

I first kicked a soccer ball when I was 12. My early exposure to playing the sport earned me many accolades at the zonal and district levels. I still remember my first goal, where I scored a 90+5 minute header like Sergio Ramos did in the 2014 Champions League final against Atletico Madrid.
