Kylian Mbappe seems to have a new suitor in town. After dominating the summer transfer window with rumors of Real Madrid, the Frenchman is now being linked with a move to Liverpool. But these links were refuted before they even gained traction by none other than Glen Johnson. The former Reds star vocally claims the Premier League side won’t be splurging millions to sign the PSG superstar. 

2023 is about to end in almost a month, yet Mbappe’s domestic future isn’t clear. Where the player will play next season is yet to be seen. 

Glen Johnson doesn’t see Liverpool splurging money for Kylian Mofbappe

This whole summer, the Kylian Mbappe-Real Madrid saga kept the soccer fraternity busy. But despite all the hopes, nothing transpired between the two. Additionally, the failure to lure the Frenchman to the Spanish capital has led Madrid to cool their interest. Eventually, Los Blancos taking a step back brought Liverpool in front, who are apparently being touted to sign the World Cup winner. 

However, these links were swiftly rejected by the Reds’ former defender, Glen Johnson. While speaking to squawka, when asked if Liverpool would sign Mbappe, he expressed his doubts. “I can’t see Liverpool spending the kind of money it would take to bring Mbappe in. They’ve always brought in players strategically, using data, statistics and looking to the future and also often looking for a good deal and to be honest, they usually get it right. I just don’t think they’re the kind of club to go and break the bank to buy Mbappe,” he said.

Johnson further insisted he hopes Liverpool goes against the odds and manages to sign him. “I hope they do! I just think it goes against what they are all about,” he added. Be that as it may, it is quite an interesting claim from the former England international. Meanwhile, a Chelsea legend once claimed that Mbappe may reject Liverpool’s advances.

Will Mbappe choose Liverpool?

Earlier, Chelsea legend Frank Leboeuf shared his insights on Mbappe’s potential future club. When asked if there were any alternatives to Real Madrid that could attract Mbappe next summer, he took Manchester City and Bayern Munich’s names but claimed both already have the best players.

Then he claimed, “Liverpool could be an option, although I’m uncertain if Mbappe would choose to reside there, with all due respect to the Scousers!” Mbappe turning Liverpool down will be a setback for Jurgen Klopp’s side, should they pursue his signature.
