The MLS season has just kicked off. Fans have been treated to Puerto Rican singer Luis Figueroa’s version of the national anthem. However, it seems Figueroa isn’t the only non-soccer high-profile entity at the game. In a video shared by the official MLS handle, famous ex-NFL player Chad Johnson was seen at the match. Presumably to be with his good friend David Beckham.

The former Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver was seen interacting with Inter Miami’s boss, David Beckham. The pair even had a warm embrace. Interestingly, Johnson had previously made public his fondness for the Herons. Back in 2014, he tweeted, “Just talked with David Beckham for 20 minutes at baggage claim and he ensured I’ll have a spot on the MLS team here in Miami.” Furthermore, he also hilariously tweeted in 2018 that he will play goalkeeper for Inter Miami. Hence, it seems the NFL veteran is a long-time follower of the Herons.

Besides the former NFL icon, Hollywood A-lister Will Smith is also in attendance, spotted alongside David Beckham. Will Smith shares a great bond with the Inter Miami owner and even threw a welcome party for Beckham after he arrived at La Galaxy in 2007. Nevertheless, being an AS Roma fan, he wouldn’t be the most excited person in the world to watch the Herons in action. For Chad Johnson, the match represents an incredible opportunity.

Chad Johnson will be delighted to see ‘god-given’ Messi line up for David Beckham’s side

Chad Johnson has always been a soccer fan. Recently, in a TV show segment, the NFL icon was asked to choose between Ronaldo & Messi. Johnson said, “I love Messi, I love Messi to death!” Furthermore, he also added that Messi is ‘god-given’, and has no equal when it comes to skill. Moreover, he also had great things to save about the soccer icon’s arrival to the MLS back in 2023.

Terming Messi as the ‘GOAT’, Johnson added that the move would help to bring attention & exposure to the MLS. Hence, seeing the Argentine maestro in the starting XI would have been great news not just for him but for Beckham himself.

In pre-season, Messi had injury issues that disrupted his rhythm. He played the remaining games from the bench. Hence, there were doubts about his physical condition. However, it looks like the Argentine maestro is back to his best and is pulling the strings as Inter Miami leads 1-0 against Real Salt Lake.
