The featherweight’s grave condition also resulted in concerning consequences as he sustained brain damage. While he has a complicated path to recovery ahead, the MMA world is pouring its support for the fighter. Joining the fray, the UFC veteran John McCarthy has some encouraging words for him.

The American fighter recently took his first steps, with assistance, after he fought his way out of a coma. He is also responding well to stimuli, as updated by a video posted by MMAFighting. Another UFC veteran, Chael Sonnen, narrated the sequence of unfortunate tragedies that struck his close friend. Besides him, ‘Big Paul’ believes ‘Sunshine’ will bounce back soon and will fulfill his duties as a family man.

John McCarthy shares an emotional message for Chris Lencioni

The famed referee sat down with Josh Thomson in Weighing In Ep. #377 and the duo shared a touching message to the 10-3 record holder. The Bellator commentator, who has closely witnessed the fighting prowess of Lencioni, announced he was a fighter to the heart.

The 60-year-old also mentioned the MMA fighter was fighting to get himself back. Not only as a fighter but as a functioning man who could take care of himself. The LA native then recounted how he took the jab that life threw at him and, after a hard round, he was ready with his comeback.

Following this, the podcaster mentioned his comeback as a fighter was not important. But what was important was his return to his family, a loving husband to his wife, and to the family he cared about.

McCarthy announced, “I don’t give a sh*t if you fight again. That doesn’t matter. But I do want you to be able to be the husband to your wife that you were before and have the family that you always talked about. So good luck with everything brother.”

The 28-year-old’s wife recently told Marca how his journey of progress has been one of sheer will and determination. She also informed Lencioni has shown positive improvement in his cognitive ability and is trying his best to speak up.
