

The MMA world is in awe of what Zion Clark has done. The wrestler and now MMA fighter was born without legs because of a rare birth defect called Caudal Regression Syndrome. Despite being physically challenged, the 25-year-old has achieved what many able-bodied athletes may never achieve. His first victory is only the beginning of a journey, according to Clark. Clark won his debut MMA fight against Eugene Murray in a unanimous decision. Zion Clark has now disclosed how a chance meeting with a fighter friend inspired him to take up MMA.

He revealed how a chance meeting with Bellator fighters inspired him to get into MMA. Zion Clark was always an MMA fan but had never thought about becoming professional. He had plans of trying for the Olympics and Para-Olympics, but MMA came later and now is the no.1 priority for the Ohio native.

Ellen had a part to play in Clark’s MMA debut
While Zion Clark admitted that he has always been an MMA fan, given his wrestling background, he admitted it was a trip to Los Angeles that made him change how he looked at MMA. Apparently, Clark and his mother had to appear on the ‘Ellen DeGeneres Show’. On the same trip, Bellator Prospect Joey Davis invited him for training. It was here that Davis took Clark to a training session with another Bellator Champion A.J. Mckee.

Zion Clark admitted in his interaction with MMA Fighting, “Initially, what propelled me to a lot of these places that I’ve gotten to? Martial arts. It’s something that I live, something that I breathe, so it was a no-brainer for me to join the team.”

Zion Clark has had a tough childhood
Zion Clark may be an inspirational figure today for many, but the confidence comes from the difficult times he has dealt with. Clark was given up for adoption right after he was born. He moved from one foster home to another for a long time. The ‘champion with invisible legs’ was the victim of multiple waves of abuse, but never gave up. He finally got a permanent home when he was 16 years of age.

The security and assurance of a permanent home made him give more attention to wrestling, which he had taken up since elementary school. The rest is history. Clark became an exceptional wrestler and got his name in the Guinness book of world records. The latest MMA victory means a lot for Clark and he doesn’t want to stop here.
