Although he faced a lot of criticism for moving to the PFL, former UFC champ Francis Ngannou‘s doubters have turned into believers. Ngannou is the next opponent for WBC champion Tyson Fury and the two are slated to face off on 28 October, in Saudi Arabia. But it is not just the fight card that has people excited.

The news that did rounds initially, was that Francis Ngannou was getting paid $8 million for his fight against Tyson Fury. This is a gigantic number in comparison with what the fighter was making when he was in the UFC. For his fight against Ciryl Gane, Ngannou made about $600,000. In fact, most UFC champions do not get paid as much. But, there is more to this story than meets the eye.

YouTuber turned boxer Jake Paul shocked the whole world with his latest tweet. As a fellow PFL signee, Paul Tweeted saying that Ngannou’s purse for the fight is actually an 8-figure sum, not $8 million. UFC legend Daniel Cormier had initially advised against Ngannou’s PFL move but when he learned that Ngannou was making the money he was making, he apologized on video.

Now, amidst talks of enormous pay for his fight against Fury, Ngannou has dropped another bomb on the people.

Francis Ngannou’s charity foundation is hosting Judo Regional Championship and the foundation’s official Instagram page, @francisngannoufoundation, uploaded a post announcing this.

“Countdown to Championship Day! 🗓️ This Saturday, 15th July, the Francis Ngannou Foundation 🥊 is honoured to host 🏡 the Judo Regional Championship 🥋 in Batié.
10 fierce fighters 💪 from our foundation will step onto the mat, competing in various categories.”, read the caption.

The former HW champ and ‘hardest puncher’ re-shared this post on his Instagram story.

First of many – Francis Ngannou’s new journey with PFL

When Francis Ngannou was in the UFC, he was one of the most feared fighters among all the ranks. He was the UFC HW champion but also a target for the current HW champ Jon Jones. The two had verbal exchanges with neither fighter willing to back down. The rumor was that the two would fight but with Ngannou’s ‘big money move’, the fight fizzled out. Jones is currently preparing for his last UFC title defense against Stipe Miocic while Ngannou is prepping to face The Gypsy King.

Jones and Tyson Fury have also been beefing but it seems that Ngannou will be taking this fight on behalf of them both. The two recently met at a PFL event, sparking rumors of a possible fight, yet again.
