UFC 300 is around the corner, but things seem to be at a frustrating standstill regarding the main event of the milestone PPV. There’s no doubt that the card is already stacked, but it lacks the charm of a main event that could get both casual and hardcore fans buzzing with anticipation.

As the MMA community’s patience keeps wearing thin about the delayed announcement, CEO Dana White seems to have too many options available, including a rumored bout between Alex Pereira and Tom Aspinall. Additionally, it seems like ‘Poatan’s chances to have another rodeo at the middleweight division have been snubbed.

However, the light heavyweight champion and the interim heavyweight champion have hinted at a faceoff, but there have been few concrete developments about the fight. Recently, a UFC insider has revealed that while the matchup might sound far-fetched, it has not been entirely dismissed by the UFC top brass.

Chael Sonnen asserts that the rumored clash hasn’t been dismissed yet

Alex Pereira and Tom Aspinall, through their cryptic messages, gave a note that there’s a possibility of them clashing in the future. Nonetheless, the date and time were not ascertained. A month-old message from Pereira had the term “300” in it and this led the fans to speculate he was hinting at a potential clash at the UFC 300.

Interestingly, UFC insider and former fighter, Chael Sonnen on his YouTube channel, asserted that the top brass of the promotion has not brushed their matchup aside. “It’s not the end of the world, considering Jamal Hill is out and coming back with an injury. You’ve still got a 205 pattern; it’s not the end of the world with your heavyweight, considering your undisputed champion is still out there,” said Sonnen on his YouTube channel.

He further added, “I don’t predict for you that this is being done in a back room and you’re just about to get the announcement. But what I will predict for you is that when the boss heard about this idea [Pereira vs. Aspinall clash], they did not dismiss it as quickly and easily as they normally would. They did not publicly come out and dismiss it just yet.” Chael mentioned how they did not publicly come out with a different idea for Tom or a different idea for Pereira, which would have eliminated all talks.

Chael claimed that Aspinall has not been provided any fights because White wants to keep the tab open for a champion vs. champion fight between Alex Pereira and Tom Aspinall.

However, it seems like Alex Pereira’s chances to have another rodeo at the middleweight division have been snubbed by the Dricus Du Plessis team as per another insider.

Pereira snubbed for Israel Adesanya?

After Dircus Du Plessis clinched the middleweight title from Sean Strickland, Pereria took to his social media handle to add a rather massive comment. The light heavyweight fighter stated that he might come back to the middleweight division for one last time. This comment sent shockwaves throughout the entire MMA world.

Additionally, Israel Adesanya is reportedly coming back to the middleweight picture and is looking to lock horns with the new champion. So who will get the opportunity to face the champion? Well if we are to pay heed to the rumor mill, it’s Adesanya.

Per UFC welterweight Michael Chiesa, the probability of a fight between Adesanya and Du Plessis is at an all-time high now – ” I have the same agent as Dricus Du Plessis. I think they’re trying to make it happen. You know, he does have a compromised leg from the fight and, maybe working on a new contract. But for me as a fan, I would like to see him[Adesanya] fight Dricus Du Plessis.”
