Conor McGregor enjoys unparalleled popularity and stardom in the UFC and MMA. The Irishman is the promotion’s first double champion and still its biggest pay-per-view star. McGregor recently reminded everyone of his past achievements. However, the reactions indicate how this sport sometimes has a short-lived memory.

McGregor has been on the sidelines since his injury in July 2021. He appears to have completely recovered but is yet to have a return date. Meanwhile, ‘The Notorious’ shared a post recapping his conquests in the UFC on his social media.

Fans react to Conor McGregor sharing UFC achievements

McGregor shared the post on his Instagram with the caption, “And I done it handy.” Many fans acknowledged and congratulated ‘Mystic Mac‘ for his respectable resume. However, there were those that did not take kindly to this parading of past accolades.

Unimpressed by McGregor’s post, one fan commented, “7 years ago can you do something now please.” Another wrote, “Living In the past.”

One fan accused McGregor of living in the past and wrote, “Bro cant move on from 2016 😭😭😭.” Similarly, another fan said, “That’s great but it’s a “what have you done lately” sport.”

One fan observed, “It’s just such a shame you gained all that but lost your pride and honor and self respect.”

However, there were those that gave props to McGregor as well. One fan gave him the thumbs-up saying, ” That run from debut to the 2nd belt is the most spectacular run in mma, next closest is Jones but he hasn’t got the same connection with the people.”

McGregor’s last successful run in the UFC culminated in his winning the lightweight belt in 2016. He has been unable to replicate his legendary form since then. As he looks to return in 2023, the Irishman is not short of options for a fight.

Potential opponents for McGregor’s 2023 return

One advantage of being the money fight in your promotion is that you are never short of options. The same holds true for Conor McGregor. The 34-year-old lost both of his last outings yet is still sought after by top fighters in the UFC.

Explosive lightweight Michael Chandler is one option for McGregor’s return fight. The former Bellator champion has been vocal in his desire to fight McGregor and cut some great promos calling out the Irishman. Chandler is 2-3 in the UFC losing his last two bouts. A fight against McGregor would be a fair match-up considering their recent runs.

Another option is the human highlight reel, Justin Gaethje. There were talks of McGregor vs. Gaethje before, but the fight never came to fruition. Gaethje and McGregor have both expressed an interest in fighting each other before. With a win against a top contender like Gaethje, McGregor could begin to build a case for an eventual title shot.
