McGregor broke his leg during his trilogy bout against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021. He has been on the sidelines since then. Talks of his return in 2023 are more heated than ever. However, he chose to shed some light on his injuries and recovery after scathing attacks from Anthony Smith.
Conor McGregor revealed he went into UFC 229 with another injury
While responding to a fan’s observation about his injury, McGregor mentioned a previous injury. The 34-year-old revealed he crushed the metatarsal bones in his foot 3 weeks before the grudge match against Khabib Nurmagomedov. He also pointed out how the injury did not deter him from going ahead with the fight.
I crushed the metatarsal bones in my foot 3 weeks before the khabib fight, and still made the walk. All injuries are not the same. You will see it all on @netflix. When a serious injury with a high % of never recovering occurs, it is just simply not the same. https://t.co/NQyY7MEUHr

McGregor lost the grudge match against Nurmagomedov via fourth-round submission. The protean striker did not show his usual firepower and did not deal any significant blows to his rival. This new revelation might help get a new perspective on McGregor’s performance at UFC 229.
The Irishman also added how a devastating injury, like the one he suffered at UFC 264, has a high percentage of never recovering completely. McGregor also went after Anthony ‘Lionheart‘ Smith for his recent comments on him and his recovery.
McGregor blasted Anthony Smith for steroid accusations
UFC light-heavyweight and analyst Anthony Smith recently came out and expressed his suspicions about Conor McGregor. McGregor has been looking significantly jacked in his recent pictures. Smith insinuated that the former double champ might be using banned substances for his recovery and physical gains.

The bold accusations did not sit well with the Irishman, who fired back at Smith in his recent tweets.

The audacity of this loser! @lionheartasmith you’re a loser. The % of the bones joining back after a break like this is so low. You think I give a fuck about anything else. I am the most tested fighter all time in combat sport. I give everything to this game.
You – Nothing!— Conor McGregor (@TheNotoriousMMA) November 26, 2022
McGregor emphasized how slim the chances of full recovery from his injury were. He strongly stated that he did not care about anything but his recovery. The UFC’s first ‘champ champ’ also reminded Smith that he was one of the most tested fighters of all time in the sport. McGregor took a few more shots at Smith by referring to their respective contributions to the sport.
