Former featherweight and lightweight champion Conor McGregor has had his fair share of critics. People have criticized him for cherry-picking his fights in the past, but the claims got stronger when he fought Donald Cerrone in his comeback fight in 2020.
Whether there’s any truth to it or not is for the fans to decide; however, Islam Makhachev’s manager Rizvan Magomedov certainly believes so. He talked about Islam’s prospects in the lightweight division, among other matters, in an interview with RT Sport.
A reporter put forth the scenario that if Islam were to win his next fight and McGregor to lose his, they might find each other within an arm’s distance in the rankings.

He asked whether a fight between Makhachev and McGregor is a realistic possibility in the near future.
“I really doubt Conor will take this fight, even if the UFC want to put it together. He is at the same stage of his UFC career, an old fighter with a big name,” Magomedov said.
He also added that Conor had no title ambitions anymore and that calling him an ‘old fighter with a big name’ was accurate.
Magomedov said that Islam is a nightmare for McGregor. Although the fight might’ve been interesting, Conor would never accept it.
“He just cherry-picks fights for himself, looks for some beneficial and comfortable spots in terms of opposition. While Islam is actually a nightmare for him, style-wise. It would be interesting to see this fight, but he won’t accept this fight. No way,” he concluded.
